As an evolutionary step in the Sitges CB’s functions, we decided to commit to generating knowledge, promoting conferences and meetings that will allow us to rethink the future and establish bases among all the different actors, in order to move forward much stronger, with more information and improving our quality as a destination.
Under the umbrella of the F5 Sitges Refreshing MICE project, we implemented a change in our business model and promotional strategy. We continue to be firmly committed to events and, among other actions, we established an alliance with the EMI – Event Management Institute, to promote two research projects that would allow us to further the knowledge of the MICE sector. The Psicothon and the “MICE Cell”.
We would like to share with you the results obtained by the five psychologists from the UB, coordinated by the EMI, who, for four months, investigated the elements that intervene in the decision-making process of a destination or a venue, the destination and the physical spaces as determining factors in the communication of an event.We now know, when talking about events, how colors communicate, that smell is key and which aromas help us to generate lasting memories, what the ideal temperature for comfort is, or which elements favor relaxation. An event’s environment, destination and venue communicate and influence the mood of your audience and their predisposition, and consequently, the results of the event.
We can influence the decision of our potential clients by adapting our venues to their needs, enhancing those aspects that most favor them and minimizing those that may be in conflict with their objectives.

That is why it has become a magnet for hotel investments and why chains such as Meliá, with its Meliá Sitges and ME Sitges Terramar hotels, or Wyndham, with Dolce Sitges, have opted for Sitges and are constantly investing in improvements to their establishments. To achieve the Gold category, Sitges has had to pass an audit, based on the sustainability indicators and goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As the audit reveals, Sitges’ strengths include the destination’s constant evolution, as well as the existence of initiatives capable of leveraging information technologies to generate responsible tourism activities, and intelligent and sustainable management models in the use of resources.On September 16th, the ‘MTVG Conference; mobility and tourism with a vision of gender’ was organized at the Sunway Hotel. A day to share new visions that allow for planning mobility and tourism policies in a way that is more in line with the present reality and taking the gender perspective into account. Organized by the AMTU in collaboration with the Barcelona ATM and the Sitges Town Council.
The International Mobility Congress (IMC 22) will be held for the second year on October 25th and 26th at the Hotel Melià Sitges. This congress has maintained the slogan “Drive Into Innovation”, but this year it will focus on two major issues: sustainable, safe and inclusive mobility; and digitization.
