Logistics and strategy are crucial in the MICE sector, but what really last are emotions. The twentieth anniversary of the Sitges Convention Bureau proved this on 11 July of this year at the Hotel ME Sitges Terramar, where more than 100 professionals spent two days collaborating under the slogan of ‘The whole is much more than the sum of its parts’.
It was not a protocol event but an experience designed to spark emotions with tributes to the pioneers, inspiration with the Sitges Emotional Territory speech by Raimond Torrents and participation with EMO Talks and Open Mic, which were the most emotional parts of the event.
- Immediate connection: Maria Sánchez’s ‘Thank you for coming’ sparked the peak excitement in the audience, confirming the power of an emotional opening.
- Activities with a purpose: The History Quiz was not only entertaining but also activated the group’s attention, humour and pride.
- Emotional depth: The Open Mic combined both excitement and low energy, depending on the speaker, and revealed moments of gratitude, melancholy and shared emotion.
- Positive closure: The video on the twenty years and the closure heightened the positive emotional valence and left a sense of community and anticipation of the future.
The Emogg report also highlighted a very well managed balance between institutional and emotional contents, which are essential to maintaining engagement and a positive memory.
The case of Sitges CB’s twentieth anniversary offers the sector clear lessons: integrate storytelling, design multisensory experiences, activate participation and measure emotional impact. Beyond memories, emotion also turns into the destination’s reputation and thus new opportunities.
