Maria Sánchez Quintana, head of the Sitges Convention Bureau, receives the MPI (Meeting Professional International) Iberian Chapter’s award for “Best Destination Promotion” at the MPI Iberian Awards.

Maria Sánchez Quintana, Promotion Executive at Sitges CB, received the award for Best Destination Promotion. According to MPI, this award recognises work promoting a location as a MICE tourism destination, with a strong strategy that involves a creative and differential approach, passion and engagement, and that has a positive impact on the destination. The award coincides with the 20th anniversary of Sitges CB, a programme created by the Sitges municipal government’s Tourism Council, and rewards the work carried out to cement Sitges as a leading meeting and conference destination. After Barcelona, it’s the top Catalan destination for meetings, and has made a name for itself in the heart of the MICE world.

The panel meeting for the 6th edition of the MPI Iberian Awards took place on 20 March in Barcelona, where distinguished industry professionals gathered to decide the finalists in different categories. The winners were announced on 11 April in Barcelona, during the GMID (Global Meetings Industry Day) held by MPI Iberian Chapter at the TBS Education business school campus. We wish to extend our most sincere congratulations to the other finalists, Ana Alonso (CEO of Spain is Excellence) and Jorge Treceño (Legacy Manager al Madrid Convention Bureau).

MPI Iberian Chapter created the MPI Iberian Awards to recognise the global impact and relevance of the meetings and events industry, as highlighted by the GMID. These awards, established in 2019, reflect a commitment to recognising and celebrating excellence and innovation in the MICE sector in Spain and Portugal.

MPI, created in 1972, is the largest association for meetings and events professionals, with over 17,000 members in 90 chapters and clubs in 70 countries. It provides innovative and relevant education programmes, networking opportunities and business exchanges, and acts as a prominent voice for the promotion and growth of the industry.

In Spain, MPI Iberian Chapter was created as a chapter and official representative of MPI in February 2006, and then became the representative of MPI in Portugal as well. It currently has more than 60 affiliated members, sector professionals, and continues to grow, with the ideal ratio of event organisers to suppliers: 50:50.
