Sitges moves forward steadily towards a more sustainable MICE tourism model. Sitges CB has joined the Biosphere Commitment, making it the second convention bureau, after Barcelona, to get this certification, which endorses good sustainable tourism practices. Sitges obtained Biosphere certification in 2016 and has been a Biosphere Gold Destination since 2022. This latest recognition reinforces our commitment to integrate sustainability into event organisation.
Along the same lines, Sitges recently held the Break the Ice Forum, an international gathering where sustainability played a key role, thanks to our collaboration with Hotel Calipolis, Barcelona Convention Bureau, Catalunya Convention Bureau and Finca Mas Solers. Also with High Fidelity Collective, who organised the activity ECO Heroes, with the guidance of Sitges CB. Attendees explored Sitges responsibly through activities inspired in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in line with the destination’s cultural and environmental values, combining networking, commitment and cultural discovery.
To facilitate the organisation of responsible events, Sitges CB offers sector professionals the Sitges, Green and Sustainable Events Handbook, with suggestions from committed local companies, solidarity activities, and recommendations for reducing waste, encouraging sustainable mobility and responsible consumption in the destination. At Sitges CB, we want to help ensure every event leaves a positive footprint.
We are also working with the Spain CB on the Event Impact Measurement tool, designed to identify the sustainable impacts of an event and propose actions to minimise the negative and enhance the positive impacts on the destination and its surroundings.

One of the fam-trips promoted by the Hotel Calipolis allowed the fourteen participants to discover the destination, enjoy local hospitality and cuisine and visit the Sitges’ Malvasia Interpretation Centre (CIM), a unique cultural venue that connects tradition, sustainability and wine tourism.
The Sunway Sitges Hotel organised another fam-trip with the participation of 25 professionals from Barcelona. The initiative aimed to familiarise them with both the hotel facilities and the local setting to boost their knowledge of the destination. The participants enjoyed a Sunway Sitges fine dining experience.
In its open day, the Grup Matas Arnalot presented its offerings for the MICE segment by inviting around thirty event organisers to visit the Restaurant Picnic, the Hotel Subur Marítim, the Masia Vilanoveta and the Restaurant Sofia by Picnic.
